Why This Election Matters
A year from now, Torontonians will head to the polls to elect a Mayor and Council shaping our city’s next chapter. Some will be new, while others will return to continue the work they’ve begun. But every one of them will inherit a city at a crossroads – one that can no longer afford to stand still.
For too long Toronto has unfairly carried the burden of costs downloaded by other levels of government. Across this city, our members, businesses both large and small, see Toronto’s promise and its strain: a city of extraordinary potential, groaning under the weight of its own growth. Our population, our economy, and our ambitions have all outpaced the infrastructure meant to support them.
The city’s future depends on its willingness to act decisively. This election is an opportunity to choose leadership that demonstrates a commitment to managing Toronto’s finances as carefully as its potential deserves. Smarter, more strategic management of the city’s assets can generate the value needed to reinvest in our communities and solve the longstanding challenges plaguing our city.
Without this, Toronto will remain trapped by its own limitations: worsening congestion, affordability, and service pressures that have come to define life in our city. The choice ahead is clear: let’s be competitive, not complacent.
