TORONTO, March 30, 2022 – As a champion for businesses, the Toronto Region Board of Trade is heartened to see that the province has answered our call to develop and share a Plan to Stay Open that is based on sensible solutions like emergency preparedness, shoring up personal protective equipment and bolstering our healthcare system.

Ontarians have made immense sacrifices in the fight against COVID-19 and businesses, in particular, have borne the brunt of public health restrictions. It is critical therefore, that the province expands its Plan to Stay Open so that it includes measures that will allow our economy to stay open in the event of future waves of COVID-19 or new pandemics entirely.

Measures such as the enhancement of an HVAC Rebate Program that would help businesses improve ventilation, the development of clear and consistent guidelines for businesses operating during a pandemic, as well as a plan to maintain access to rapid testing for businesses, are needed if we intend to manage public health crises without economic crises going forward.
