A Celebration of Jan De Silva’s Legacy

Jan De Silva, former TRBOT President & CEO, with Yung Wu and supporters.

Last night, the Toronto Region Board of Trade paid tribute to the relentless work of Jan De Silva, our recent past-President & CEO. Having steered this organization for eight and a half years, De Silva's impact on the Toronto Region and the broader Ontario community is both undeniable and commendable.

Our gala event space was filled with warmth, gratitude, and camaraderie as members of the Board’s senior leadership team and Board of Directors were joined by an influential group of VIP guests to celebrate Jan's remarkable journey.

One of the highlights of the evening was the heartfelt tribute by Peter Bethlenfalvy, the Minister of Finance for Ontario. Representing the province, Bethlenfalvy spoke to De Silva's achievements, noting that "Jan's tenure has been marked by a long list of accomplishments that have made a lasting impact on the Toronto Region and on Ontario as a whole."

Toronto Region Board of Trade Chair Yung Wu, who co-launched the Climate Economy Strategic Council, former Toronto Mayor John Tory who worked closely with Jan over her time as President & CEO, and Giles Gherson, her immediate successor all addressed Jan’s accomplishments with the Board.

Jan also addressed attendees, sharing reflections on her time as President & CEO, and expressing her enthusiasm for what is yet to come for the Board, our business community and our region.

The event allowed guests to personally thank Jan and reminisce about the transformative moments and initiatives during her leadership. Stories of challenges turned into successes, innovative solutions to age-old problems, and the relentless pursuit of excellence echoed throughout the evening.

While Jan De Silva's tenure may have ended, her legacy at the Toronto Region Board of Trade will continue to inspire, motivate, and guide the organization for years to come.
