Beyond the Investment Summit: Preparing Ontario to Attract and Retain Global Investment

The Canada Investment Summit succeeded in bringing the world’s capital to the table. The challenge now is turning that interest into permits, projects, shovels in the ground and stronger productivity.

Ontario has the fundamentals to compete for global capital, but the province still lacks a deep enough pipeline of investment-ready projects. At the root of the problem is Canada’s tax and regulatory system, which continues to make it harder to attract investment and compete globally. The Board is calling on governments to build on the Summit by:

  1. Creating a coordinated pipeline of investable projects
  2. Establishing a clear value proposition and front door for investors
  3. Advancing tax and regulatory reform
  4. Making the Summit a recurring accountability mechanism
  5. Mobilizing capital into homegrown champions
