The Toronto Region Board of Trade welcomes the Government of Ontario’s release of its first Integrated Energy Plan, Energy for Generations. This plan is a signal moment for Ontario’s energy sector because it is foundational for our long-term economic growth.

With the Province’s electricity demand projected to rise by 75% over the next 25 years - and to actually double in Toronto - the Plan's focus on affordability, security, reliability, and clean energy is both timely and necessary. A modern, resilient energy system is essential to enhancing productivity, ensuring that Ontario’s businesses can innovate, scale, and compete globally.

The Plan's initiatives, including the largest nuclear expansion on the continent, protections for fuel access, and expanded support for distributed energy resources like rooftop solar and battery storage, represent a diversified approach that plays to Ontario’s strengths.

As Ontario positions itself as an important hub and contributor to Canada as a global energy superpower, sustained engagement with the business community will be vital. Mobilizing and growing Ontario’s deep bench of energy suppliers, manufacturers, innovators, and skilled workers will be critical to turning this ambitious vision into reality.

We look forward to working with the government and stakeholders to support the vision outlined in this plan.
