Toronto, ON, November 23, 2021 – The Innovation Corridor Business Council applauds yesterday’s decision by the Canadian Transportation Agency to approve the CN Milton Logistics Hub, a project the Council has supported since its inception. This announcement represents the final approval needed to begin construction on this critical piece of infrastructure.

“We are delighted that the CN Milton Logistics Hub will be able to move ahead, providing increased capacity for the movement of goods through our region and helping to meet the growing demand for rail freight capacity,” said Jan De Silva, Co-Chair, Innovation Corridor Business Council and President & CEO of the Toronto Region Board of Trade. “This project will address regional supply chain issues, facilitating international trade, while reducing emissions and reducing the burden on the region’s highways.”

“Demand for capacity to transport goods by rail continues to increase and adding capacity to move an additional 450,000 container units per year is a big deal for the whole region,” said Ian McLean, Co-Chair, Innovation Corridor Business Council and President & CEO of the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce. “We’re thrilled that there will be no further delays in moving forward with this project, which will have a significant positive impact on the Innovation Corridor’s competitiveness on a global stage.”

The Milton Logistics Hub is a $250 million privately funded infrastructure investment on CN-owned land in Halton Region – a project that was subjected to significant delays as the result of a slow and cumbersome approvals process, which is now finally complete.
