Toronto Region Board of Trade raises concerns about impending rail strike’s impact on Canada’s economy

With the threat of a rail strike scheduled to begin on August 22, 2024, Toronto Region Board of Trade, alongside our Canadian Global Cities Council (CGCC) colleagues, sent a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, calling for immediate action to avert the catastrophic consequences of a rail work stoppage. This strike poses a significant threat to our national supply chains, reminiscent of the disruptions during the pandemic and last summer's port strikes.

Canada's rail network, which moves $1.04 billion worth of goods daily, is essential to our economy. A work stoppage now could destabilize key sectors, jeopardize jobs, and damage our global standing as a reliable trading partner.

Toronto Region Board of Trade and our CGCC partners urge the federal government to take every possible measure to avoid this strike and safeguard our economic future. Read our letter.
